Spring staycation ideas

Being in the middle of winter, it's only natural to long for spring and the warm, beautiful weather it can bring. Thinking ahead to spring can actually be beneficial, as it's never too early to begin planning for your spring homeschool program.

After being cooped up all winter, wouldn't it be nice to have a small family getaway to celebrate the start of a new season? However, it's not always possible to jump on a plane or a train to go to some far-off destination. This is why a staycation might be a better option for you and your son. Staycations don't involve a plane ticket anywhere, but they're still the perfect opportunity to get away and may even offer your teen some learning experiences. Here are a few unique staycation ideas:

Visit a national park
Get outside with your family and enjoy the fresh air by heading to a national park in your area. Do some research about the park and call ahead to see what type of activities or tours the facility might offer. Bring a picnic basket along so you and your family can enjoy a healthy lunch while enjoying the nice weather.

Make your own pottery
Hop on the computer to see if there are any paint-your-own-pottery facilities nearby. This activity is great for young children and teens alike. Your son can make his very own bowl, plate or mug that he can take with him to college as a small, yet meaningful piece of home. Making his own pottery may also boost his fine motor skills and give him a chance to channel his creativity.

Go golfing
Playing golf is not only fun, the sport is a great form of exercise, can help your son sleep better throughout the night and may enhance balance control and posture. Plus, it's a great opportunity for your son to enjoy the serenity of the outdoors. Plan a family trip to the golf course where you can teach your teen how to play golf. If you have younger children that aren't ready to tackle an 18-hole course quite yet, you can go mini golfing instead!
