High school brings a sense of accomplishment for attaining the goal of higher level learning. During these formative years, your teen may be focused more on social activities and relationships. Encourage them to find learning moments in their activities and share them with you. Continue to reinforce and further develop deductive reasoning and problem solving skills while preparing for college and career readiness.

Language Arts – Help your high school student develop skills to evaluate material for accuracy and effective discussion and question techniques. They should understand the fundamentals of composition, grammar and vocabulary while interpreting and analyzing written text while enhancing their problem solving skills. Students will master literacy skills.

Math – Begin to instruct your child on the concepts of budgeting, investing, insurance and banking to start preparing them for independent living. Basic concepts of statistics will help them identify trends. Their homeschool algebra study should be expanded to include quadratic equations, relations and functions, radicals and elements of probability. Students will master algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and trigonometry.

Science – Biology, Earth Science and Physics begin to be introduced in high school. Solar and nuclear energy continue the study of ecology and the environment, while the nature and causes of disease can be introduced. Students will master biology, physics, chemistry and astronomy.

Social Studies – Economics, taxation and the rights and responsibilities of good citizenship are introduced in your high school social studies homeschool curriculum. Expand your child’s learning to studies of comparative cultures and politics with understanding political parties and elections. Students will master the history of our nation while understanding capitalism, commerce, and prepare them to manage their economics.
