What is elevateScience and what are the components?

elevateScience is a science curriculum for Grades K-8 and is made up of the following program components:

Student Components

  • Student Edition (K-8) A printed, consumable interactive student work text with standards-based science content, phenomena and integrated three-dimensional learning. 
  • Student eText (K-8) Online version of the student work text, accessed through either the digital course on Savvas Realize or via a web-app.
  • Spanish Student Edition (K-8) Direct translation of the interactive student work-text containing the same standards-based science content, phenomena and integrated three-dimensional learning. Also available digitally on Savvas Realize.
  • Phenomena Series Leveled Readers (K-5) Leveled science content readers for each topic. Easily identifiable topic title with title labels to indicate level: “Learn About” (Below level), “All About” (Above level). On-level reader includes topic title. Also available digitally on Savvas Realize. Spanish titles are available in print.
  • STEM/Engineering Readers (K-5) On-level topic concept readers focusing on STEM and Engineering practices. They include real-world applications of the science concept or describe technological advances related to the topic. Also available digitally on Savvas Realize. Spanish titles are available in print.
  • Student uDemonstrate Activity Cards (K-5) Laminated, activity-centered, dry-erase desk cards for organizing the activity materials. They include the lab from the Student Edition, the placemat of lab materials, and Guided and Open Inquiry versions of the topic uDemonstrate lab.
  • Engineering Design Notebook (6-8) Consumable, student-focused, design notebook for recording solutions to the uEngineer It! design challenge. Each design challenge presents a scenario and moves students through the Engineering Design process, from problem identification, to proposed design solution, to testing, design improvements and finally communicating the problem resolution. Also available digitally on Savvas Realize.
  • Student Digital Course (K-8)The online learning environment contains a variety of resources to engage digital natives, bring science content alive, and make it relevant to today’s student. Course assets include:

Teacher Components

  • Teacher Edition (K-8) Comprehensive Teacher Edition containing full lesson plans, instructional strategies and integrated EL support. Includes material lists for activity support, learning progression charts, pacing suggestions, and assessment rubrics. It also provides strong reading and math support for teachers who want to cover key language arts and mathematics standards during science instructional time.
  • Annotated Spanish Edition (K-8) This teacher resource is an annotated student edition, includes the direct Spanish translation of the interactive student work-text with suggested answers for student responses.
  • Classroom Materials Lab Kits To support the hands-on inquiry experiences in elevateScience, Savvas offers a variety of equipment material options to meet most district needs.
    • Classroom Materials Kits (K-8) Individual grade-level classroom material kits provide most of the supplies necessary to do the hands-on investigations. They include both consumable and non-consumable materials for the uConnect, uInvestigate, uEngineer It and uDemonstrate labs. Each classroom kit is organized to make material distribution easy and efficient with items pre-packaged in clearly marked topic bags. 
    • Consumable Refill Kits (K-8) Individual grade level replacement kits designed to easily restock your classroom materials kit. These kits replenish the consumable materials used during the year.
    • Labware Kits (K-2; 3-5; 6-8) This equipment package provides common laboratory materials for the science classroom. They contain reusable hardware items geared towards most hands-on activities.
    • Safety Kits (K-5; 6-8) Encourages good laboratory practice with the tools scientists use for safety. These kits contain the essential safety equipment appropriate for the entire classroom.
    • uEngineer It! Maker Crates (K-2; 3-5; 6-8) Students channel their ‘inventor’ skills with materials that support the Engineering/Design standards. Each grade span kit includes plenty of reusable materials for ongoing innovation, iteration, and design improvement. 
    • littleBits STEM Invention Toolkits (3-8) Adds engaging technology to our Engineering/Design activities designed to encourage the application of technology. These kits contain electronic modules from our partner littleBits. Kits allow students to explore the design process through the eye of a technology engineer.
  • Phenomena Series and STEM/Engineering Reader Lesson Plans (K-5) Lesson plans for each of the topic Phenomena Series Readers and STEM/Engineering Readers. These instructional tools provide teachers with strategies for guiding discussion, implementing science into literacy, and practicing the literacy skills identified in the topic.
  • Teacher Digital Course (K-8) The online learning environment includes a variety of digital resources aligned to each course scope and sequence and is fully designed to support the classroom teacher. Courses support both whole-class instruction and individual exploration of content. The Teacher view contains all of the student materials as well as the teacher eText, teacher resources, professional learning videos, teaching strategies, answer keys, rubrics and assessment support. It also offers teachers the ability to edit worksheets and assessments.
  • Teacher eText (K-8) Online version of the Teacher Edition, accessible from the digital course. 
  • ExamView® Test Bank (K-8) Downloadable ready-made pre-tests, chapter and benchmark tests accessed from the digital course. Allows for easy customization of program assessments to address any learning environment.

 

Does Savvas offer STEM Resources for science educators and students?

Savvas Learning Company features Virtual STEM Fairs several times a year highlighting STEM Careers and STEM Activities/Lessons.
